THE HOME BUTTON STORY is about The Faith of Abraham, because one of the most incredible stories of Faith in the Bible is God's promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the sands of the sea. When God changed his name from Abram (meaning Many, or Multitude) to Abraham (meaning Father of Many Nations in Hebrew), God was telling Abraham that he was going to become the Father of Many Nations. Abram at the time was 99, and both him and his wife were considered well beyond the child bearing age. Genesis 17:4  "As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a Father of Many Nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a Father of Many Nations. Of course Abraham has his doubts--> Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.

So later in the story, God tests Abraham, and tells him to sacrifice his son as burnt offering. I have heard it preached, "How could God do such a thing!", and "Just think how devastated Abraham was!" But there are clues in the New Testament that Abraham had total faith in God and his promise --> So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off.  And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and WE WILL COME BACK TO YOU.” Isaac's reaction was--> Then Isaac said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together. The story continues as the Angel stops him from using the knife to slay his son --> “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

So what was Abraham thinking during this time of testing. The book of Hebrews tells us exactly what he was thinking! --> By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to RAISE him up, even from the DEAD, from which he also received him in a figurative sense. Abraham believed God would either intervene, or, if he killed Isaac, God had the power to raise him up, even from the dead. Now that's Faith!! It the exact thing that happened to Jesus. God sent Him to die on the cross knowing that He would raise Him up from the dead 3 days later! Jesus is the greatest faith story ever!!!
Genesis 22:5: And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and WE WILL COME BACK TO YOU.”
 

Genesis 22:7-8: Then Isaac said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.”

Hebrews 11:17 :By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to RAISE him up, even from the DEAD, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
